Week 16 ~ Batman Arkham Series

The Batman: Arkham game series consists of 4 different platform games: Asylum (2009), City (2011), Origins (2013), and Knight (2015). Each game would be categorized as an open-world, action-adventure RPG. In Asylum, you're trying to trying to stop Joker from letting out all the criminals at Arkham Asylum, but unfortuanetly you fail after a heroic battle against Joker after he takes a few doses of Titan and he becomes gigantic. In City, you are trying to not only stop Joker, but also Hugo Strange from destroying Gotham. After Joker injected himself with the Titan, his blood became poisoned and he was quickly dying and injected his blood into Batman himself and sent bags of his blood all over Gotham to different hospitals. In Origins, it jumps back many years to when Joker and Batman first met. In this installment you have to fight many different villains including Joker, Two-Face, Deadshot, and more. In Knight, you jump back to reality to after the Joker has died. The main villain in this game is known as the Arkham Knight, (SPOILER ALERT) it is actually Jason Todd, your former Robin until you thought the Joker had killed him. All the games have won many game awards, most of which were Game of the Year. Origins was the least fun, but the developers (Rocksteady Studios and Warner Bros.) saved themselves when they released Arkham Knight, a phenomenal game. One reason Knight is amazing is because you get to drive around in the BA Batmobile, how cool is that?! I'd personally give each of these games a 10/10, even Origins, simply because they are all great games and Batman is just the best, no doubt about it.

Week 15 ~ Dragon Age: Inquisition

Dragon Age: Inquisition is an action RPG developed by Bioware and published by Electronic Arts. It is similar in a sense to Mass Effect, especially since it is from the same developers and has a lot of the same game concept. This game was released in November of 2014 for PC, PS3 and PS4, and Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Now, you can purchase this game for $20 since it is so old. This game offers a lot of DLCs: Jaws of Hakkon, Dragonslayer, Spoils of the Avvar, The Descent, and Trespasser. In the game, you could choose between five different class types: dual weilder, sword and shield, archer, two-handed  weapons, and mage. You get to go around attacking demons while your overall task is to close these rifts creating the monster and you're the only person who can close the rifts. You get to bring along a band of heroes to help you with your trialing tasks. This game has recieved a 4.5/5 on Metacritic, 5/5 on Common Sense Media, and 9/10 on Gamespot. I would personally give this game an 8/10 simply because I get my butt kicked every time I try to play it, but I'm trying.

Week 14 ~ Far Cry Primal

Far Cry Primal is an action RPG developed and published by Ubisoft. It was released for PS4 and Xbox One on February 23, 2016. It is the fifth installment of the Far Cry series, but the first to take place in the Stone Age, 10,000 BC. It is the same as the other as games, except this time there are no guns. This was a big uproar for most players, claiming it took away the idea of Far Cry games. Instead, you get to run around with spears and stone axes and  bow and arrows, which I think is super fun. In addition to that, you get to control animals  to help you, like bears or mammoths. You can purchase this game for $60. This game received a 4/5 from both Common Sense Media and Metacritic and 9/10 from Trusted Reviews. I haven't played this game yet so I have no rating but I really want to play it.

Week 13 ~ Overwatch

Overwatch is a new game that is set to come out for PC, PS4, and Xbox One one May 24, 2016. Overwatch was developed by Blizzard Entertainment. Overwatch is a multiplayer first-person shooter. It will be available for $60. In a sense, it is like Call of Duty but with strange characters with different abilities and different characters roles. The four character roles include: offense characters with high speed and attack but low defense, defense characters meant to form choke points for enemies, support characters that provide buffs and debuffs for their allies and enemies respectively (such as healing or speed alterations), and tank characters that have a large amount of armor and hit points to withstand enemy attacks and draw fire away from teammates. The game offers three different game modes: assault, escort, and control. Assault is just killing each other, on escort the players must transport a vehicle across the map while the other team attacks them, and control the teams battle to take control over a control point, simple enough. Since this game is not out yet, there are no actual reviews. I am personally excited to play this game when it comes out, but have not yet played the BETA.

All the different mythologies on the game are as followed: ChineseEgyptianGreekHinduJapaneseMayanNorse and Roman mythology. Smite involves a lot of teamwork and strategy. Smite is rated an 8.5/10 on IGN, 4/5 by MMOs.com, and 4/5 by Metacritic. I would personally give this game a 7/10. I like the game because it is fun and exciting, but I am not good at the game at all.

Week 11 ~ Minecraft

Minecraft is sandbox game programmed by Markus "Notch" Persson and published by Mojang in 2011. The creative and building aspects of Minecraft enable players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D constantly generated world. Other activities in the game include exploration, resource gathering, crafting, and combat. On Minecraft, the possibilities are endless. Well, they are but there is lot's to do. Minecraft is a available on PC, mobile, PlayStation 3 and 4, and Xbox 360 and One. Also on PC, you can add mods to change the game completely to where vanilla Minecraft will never be fun again. On PC it costs $27, the two consoles are $20, and the complete version on mobile is $7. Minecraft is the best-selling PC game and the third best best-selling game of all time. Minecraft is rated a 4/5 on Common Sense Media, 4.5/5 on Metacritic, and a 9/10 on IGN. I would give this game an 8/10 because my mood for it fluctuates on whether I'm bored or totally engrossed.

Week 10 ~ Pokemon

Pokemon is a media franchise consisting of videos, TV series, movies, trading cards, video games, and more that was created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1995. The beginning of Pokemon was just the first two video games, Red and Green. Initially this franchise was just in Japan but after a few years the US started to get access. The video games of Pokemon are fantasy RPGs where you catch the pokemon, train them, and try to be "the very best, like no one ever was." With approximately 70 different games, (one mobile game to be released in a couple months) there are 6 different regions to catch the 649 different pokemon. The newest game, Pokemon Go, will be a virtual reality game on cell phones where you get to practically play a brand new game all on your phone in real time. My very first video game I ever game played was Pokemon FireRed on the GBA, so Pokemon has a strong connection to me. I would personally give this game 10/10 just because it is a game that every person should play at least once. Pokemon teaches kids about motivation, determination, and compassion. After beating a Pokemon game and going through all the difficulties throughout the game, it's an experience like none other.

Week 9 ~ Ratchet and Clank Series

Ratchet and Clank is a science fiction, adventure platformer. The Ratchet and Clank series were created and developed by Insonmiac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for PlayStation consoles only. The first game was released in 2002 on PS2. There are games available on the PS2, PS3, PSP, PS4, and mobile devices. Including all consoles, there are 14 different games in this series. The first game is being remade and will be available sometime this month to add hype to the upcoming movie, Ratchet and Clank. The movie is scheduled to be released April 29, 2016. I am super excited about this movie as well as the remastered game. I have played each game except for Into the Nexus, the most recent one. I would give this series a 10/10, a must play for any person.

Week 8 ~ The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3 is a fantasy, action, open-world RPG. The Witcher 3 was released on May 19, 2015 for next-gen consoles. It is very similar to Skyrim. The Witcher 3 world is 30 times larger than the two previous games. Within the game, you are basically a monster hunter that has magical powers and you have to rescue your daughter in some way. I haven't gotten too far into the game yet, in fact, I'm not even that big of a fan of the game. I forced myself to play it these past couple days since I did spend $60 on it when it came out. Now you could probably get the game for about $40-$50. There were 6 million copies sold within the first 6 weeks of it being on the market. The Witcher 3 has won many gaming awards and lots of other things. The Witcher 3 received a 9.3/10 from IGN and a 4.5/5 on Metacritic. I personally would give this game a 7/10 simply because I haven't played too much of it and haven't enjoyed it that much. I will say the game is very difficult and so far it has been worth me time trying it.

Week 7 ~ Mass Effect Trilogy

The Mass Effect series is a science fiction, action, RPG game with three games in the series, a fourth coming out. These games were developed and published by Bioware. The three games are available on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The third game is also available on WiiU. The fourth game in the series will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and the PC. The first game was released on November 20, 2007. The second was released in 2010 and the third back in 2012. The fourth game is scheduled to be released in 2017. If you were interested in buying the trilogy back today for any of the three consoles it is available on, it would be about $30. The Mass Effect series offers many options throughout the game that alters how it'll end, who dies, and many other different scenarios. Along with that, you get to fly around space killing aliens and meeting aliens and saving Earth, and the entire galaxy in the third installment. These games offer a lot of fun for any type of gamer, even multiplayer. The Mass Effect trilogy received an 8.6 Metacritic rating and and 8.3 by Gamespot. I personally will give these games a 10/10. This trilogy is one of my favorite video games ever and I would recommend it to and for anyone.

Week 6 ~ Until Dawn

Until Dawn is an interactive drama, survival, horror, adventure video game developed by Supermassive Games and published as a PlayStation 4 exclusive by Sony Computer Entertainment. In this game, you get to make different decisions based on what you want. Each decision you make alters the story and who will die or survive. In other words, you could play the game and make the same decision for everything except for you thing, and the entire game changes. Crazy, isn't it? You can even go around like a detective and find all these different clues to figure out what's going on and you can find these totems that give you visions of what will happen or what could happen depending on a decision you make later on. Along with the interactive part, the game  provides outstanding graphics with the characters looking almost like their real-life model. Until Dawn was released on August 25, 2015 in the United States. IGN gives Until Dawn a 7.5/10, Metacritic gives it a 4/5, and Trusted Reviews gives a 5/10. I personally will give this game an 8/10 simply due to the fact of you get bored of the game very quickly, despite the fact you can change the whole plot line each time you play.

Week 5 ~ GTA V

Grand Theft Auto V is an open-world, action-adventure game developed and published by Rockstar Games. This game offers single-player and multi-player action. Both give players lots of content to play around with, and the multi-player adds and RPG element to it with a leveling up system. With every season and random events, GTA V gives it's players many things to do in multi-player. You can simply roam around in the open-world and do whatever your heart desires, or you can go do races, team death matches, or any other activity you could imagine. Now there is even heists, which was a great add-on when released and it was much waited for. It was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17, 2013. It was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 18, 2014. The version on the next-gen consoles gives players different content than the last-gen, such as better graphics and first-person mode. IGN gives GTA V a 10/10, Metacritic gives it a 5/5, and PC Gamer rates it a 92% approval rating. I personally give this game a 10/10 as well.

Week 4 ~ Destiny

Destiny is an online-only, open world, fantasy, RPG, first person shooter set in a time far in the future from now in our own galaxy. Destiny was developed by Bungie but published by Activision. There is supposedly going to be 10 years worth of new content for this game, so far we are on year two and the game is pretty great. Destiny was released September 9, 2014 for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. If you just buy the game itself, minus the three expansion packs, it is roughly $20-$30. If you get the Legendary or Collector's Edition that includes all the expansion packs, it is at least $60. The three expansion backs include The Dark Below, The House of Wolves, and The Taken King. You do not necessarily need the expansion backs to play, but it is definitely recommended that you get them because it'll make the game better. The Dark Below was released December 9, 2014, and added three story missions, several quests, a strike and a raid. The House of Wolves was released on May 19, 2015, and added new bounties, several missions, a strike, the Prison of Elders and the Trials of Osiris. The Taken King changed Destiny completely, in so many ways that it would take too long to type all of the changes. The Taken King was released on September 15, 2015, and added a new place to explore (as did HoW), new subclasses, lots of missions and classes, a couple strikes, and the new raid. IGN gives this game a 7.8 out of 10, Metacritic gives it a 4 out of 5. I personally would gives this game a 15 out of 20. Destiny is one of my absolute favorite games and I would recommend this game for anyone.

Week 3 ~ Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is an single-player, open-world, action-adventure RPG. If you have ever played any of the Batman Arkham series, the fighting still is almost identical, except this time you get to slice Orcs heads off with a sword rather than knocking a bad guy out with a bunch to the face. This game is based from the Lord of the Rings trilogy and plays off on a lot of different stories and legends from this world created by Tolkein. Shadow of Mordor was released on September 30, 2014 for Microsoft Windows, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. It was released later in November the same year for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Since then there have been two DLCs, Lord of the Hunter and The Bright LordShadow of Mordor costs around $20 for all consoles for the basic game. The Game of the Year Edition costs around $30. Each DLC also costs $9.99.  Agreed to be a very good game, IGN gives this game a 9.3/10 and Metacritic rated it a 4/5. I personally will rate Shadow of Mordor a 10/10.

Week 2 ~ Star Wars Battlefront (2015)

A much waiting for title, Star Wars Battlefront is released on November 17, 2015 for North America. Star Wars Battlefront is available on PS4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. For the basic game, it is $59.99 for each system. For the ultimate edition, it is $119.99 for all systems, which includes the season pass and a few early access stuff (not worth it). This game is a first or third person shooter. This game introduced outstanding graphics that leave all people in awe. From shooting other players to flying the Millennium Falcon, the game looks amazing. For many fans this game was a disappointment due to the lack of campaign or single-player stuff. My personal disappointment in this game was the absence of Galactic Conquest, which was brought in in the Star Wars: Battlefront II (2005) edition. Despite the view disappointments, I personally give this game a 8/10. IGN gives this game 8/10, Metacritic gives a 3.5/5, and GameSpot gives a 7/10.

Week 1 ~ FTL: Faster Than Light

FTL: Faster Than Light is a top-down space ship simulation. FTL was released on September 14, 2012 by Subset Games. The ratings for FTL by top gaming blogs/companies is as follows: IGN gives 9.6/10, Metacritic gives 4/5, and Gamespot gives an 8/10. I personally will gives this game an 8.5/10. I have played FTL many times, and have yet to complete it. FTL requires strategy on how to use your scrap and what to upgrade when. Even where to travel to requires a lot of thought and decision making skills. The fact that the world generated is random each time also increases the difficulty of FTL significantly. Though challenging, FTL brings lots of pleasure and joy to any player. FTL: Faster Than Light costs $9.99 on steam and is also available on an iPad version at the same price.
